Masengeli represented the Inspector-General of the National Police Service (IG-NPS), Douglas Kanja, during the visit, which came a day after the killings of Boma Location Chief Abdifatah Ghani and Hulugho Primary School teacher Peter Musili.

The Deputy Inspector-General of the Administration Police Service (DIG-APS), Gilbert Masengeli, on Tuesday visited Hulugho Township in Garissa County to console the families of a slain local chief and a teacher following two fatal attacks that shocked the area.

Masengeli represented the Inspector-General of the National Police Service (IG-NPS), Douglas Kanja, during the visit, which came a day after the killings of Boma Location Chief Abdifatah Ghani and Hulugho Primary School teacher Peter Musili.

The two were murdered early Monday morning in separate but closely timed incidents within the township.

While addressing residents, Masengeli conveyed a message from the IG-NPS assuring the community that security agencies are pursuing the perpetrators.

“The multi-agency security teams in the area are working tirelessly towards the arrest and apprehension of the criminal elements responsible for this senseless act,” the message read, noting that the attacks had claimed the lives of both a local administrative officer and a “dedicated young teacher.”

Masengeli described the killings as unprecedented in the township and urged residents to work closely with security agencies by sharing information that could help restore safety.

He emphasized the importance of community cooperation in intelligence gathering, saying such collaboration was vital to preventing similar incidents in the future.

During the visit, the DIG-APS met teachers and pupils at Hulugho Primary School, where he offered condolences following the killing of Musili.

He later visited the widow of the slain chief, Ms. Aftina Shalle Wabi, and conveyed condolences on behalf of the National Police Service and the government.

Chief Ghani was buried on Monday in accordance with Islamic rites.

Masengeli also held a closed-door meeting with local formed-up units and officers from forward operating bases (FOBs).

During the briefing, he was taken through a presentation outlining measures being implemented to enhance public safety and security in the area.

He called for a more robust and proactive approach to policing, urging officers to intensify their presence and operations within Hulugho Township and the surrounding border areas.

He stressed the need for heightened vigilance and responsiveness to emerging security threats.

The DIG-APS was accompanied by the Commandant of the General Service Unit (GSU), Ranson Lolmodooni, SAIG, and the Director of Corporate Communications and Police Spokesperson, Muchiri Nyaga, AIG.

Also present were the Director of Administration at the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Ibrahim Mumin, and the TSC Director of Staffing Antonina Lentoijoni.

The visit underscored the government’s commitment to addressing insecurity in the region and supporting communities affected by violent crime.
